Is Florence good for solo travel?

Safety:

Safety:Very safe

Florence is generally safe for solo female travelers. As a city brimming with arts, cultures, and rich history, it generally provides a secure and welcoming environment for hesitant lone travelers. Though, like any other city, it's important to be vigilant and keep personal belongings close, particularly in crowded tourist spots. It is advised to avoid walking alone at night in less crowded and poorly lit areas. Do take standard precautions, but overall, your experience should be relatively trouble-free.
Transport:

Transport:Easy

Florence is manageable to get around, thanks to its compact design and walkability. Key attractions such as the Duomo, Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio, and Piazza della Signoria are all within comfortable walking distance. Buses and trams cover wider areas, and the city is quite safe, but some areas can be crowded, particularly during peak tourist season.
Things to do:

Things to do:Fascinating

Florence, is a powerhouse of artistic richness, making it an ideal destination for cultural and history enthusiasts. The city packs a punch in terms of things to do and activities. Here, you'll be rewarded by works of art at every corner, be it the intricate mosaics of Santa Maria del Fiore, or stunning masterpieces by greats like Michelangelo and Leonardo in various museums. Aside from the high-profile art, Florence offers unique experiences like leather-making workshops, local cooking classes, and idyllic walks amidst Tuscan vineyards. Don't forget to add relaxing along the Arno River, exploring the bustling San Lorenzo market, or venturing into the rolling hills of the scenic countryside. Lastly, the local food and wine scene is just phenomenal!
Food:

Food:Excellent

Florence is an absolute treasure trove when it comes to food. Every corner of the city offers diverse and unique gastronomic delights that range from authentic Florentine steaks to Tuscan pasta dishes. Sweet lovers will find the gelato irresistible, while wine enthusiasts can relish local Chianti. Street food options are also plentiful and tasty, ensuring that even casual dining experiences are memorable. The versatility of Tuscan cuisine guarantees a culinary journey that both traditional and adventurous eaters will appreciate.
Budget:

Budget:Moderate

Florence can be considered moderately budget-friendly. While there are opportunities to save money such as staying in hostels, choosing affordable dining options or enjoying free sights, overall, Florence is a popular tourist destination, making it more expensive than other Italian cities. Entry fees to major attractions such as the Uffizi Gallery or the Duomo can add up. However, with careful planning and a flexible itinerary, Florence can be enjoyed on a moderate budget.

I felt safe in Florence because there are a lot of tourists but because of that you have to be aware that there are a lot of pick pockets, you have to take care of your personal things, if you go out at night be careful and try to stay alert

Wonderful city. Felt safe walking around, evening in the evenings. Plenty to see just by walking around. Lots a pubs and cafe’s where people are friendly and conversations started. Probably my favorite city we visited during our 4 weeks in Italy. I would go back as a solo traveler and feel completely safe and welcome.

Amazing trip to Florence with my family. We have visit the Boboli Garden and Costume Gallery. The steakhouse was pretty good. We enjoyed it! There were too much people and we felt ourselves a little bit uncomfortable because of it, but nevertheless everything was brilliant

I felt safe most of the time in Florence! The locals are very friendly and willing to help you! Even if you can’t speak a lot of Italian, English is widely spoken! I really loved the Uffizi gallery, and I recommend getting cumulative tickets for the bargello museums and the Brunelleschi pass for climbing the dome and bell tower! My advice is to avoid the restaurants that advertise in English if you want to find the local places! The food is absolutely amazing and typically the wine is amazing (even the house wine). The city is incredibly walkable, and there is a train station that connects you to many of the main places in Italy! There’s also buses that you can buy cheap tickets for at small stalls around the city!

I stayed at a hostel, it was a bit expensive for what it was. No breakfast, no cooking plates, no common areas except the kitchen and poor quality wifi. I recommend Piazzale Michelangelo which gives a beautiful view of the city, as well as the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral which is magnificent. Otherwise the city is very touristy and it can be a little stuffy sometimes.

I felt very safe walking around Florence, even at night. It was so lovely and not crowded at all. You can walk mostly everywhere you want to get to. So many lovely restaurants and bars as well. S stayed in a 4 star hotel and got a very good deal on booking.com. I arrived by train and left by train as I am travelling on a interail pass.

For some time, I couldn’t decide which was my favourite between Venice and Florence. But because I had the best combination of experiences i.e. food, views, museums, attractions, etc. here, I have to say Florence. Definitely going back. 💕

I had an amazing time! Great city to stroll around and enjoy in the spring or fall, it's Italy so the food is 10/10 of course and I met some really nice people there too! 100% would recommend for a solo trip where you want to enjoy slow living and architecture!

Is Florence safe for women?

Florence could be more safe, but during the day and specifically in the center I feel safe. There are areas, like the stations, that are a little less safe. But generally I feel comfortable and Florence is a safe place.

florence is very walkable and so it's easy to walk everywhere. i haven't experienced any sort of harassment or have felt unsafe here but it is off season so there aren't as many people. i would recommend just walking fast and avoiding looking too touristy

Local tips

Florence is a small but charming city, full of art and culture. You can visit it in 4 days, but there are lots of other places to see nearby! You can cross Tuscany in less than 3 hours and it's full of beautiful nature, good food and culture. There are literally so many good restaurants to try, but I recommend cheap "taverna" or "osteria" outside the city center, they have the real Italian food!!😉 It's not expensive if you avoid "tourists traps", but you have to find an accomodation outside the centre, in "Campi Bisenzio" or "Calenzano" for example. They are well connected, with trains every 30 minutes and you'll be in the city centre in 15 minutes. The car is not essential to visit Florence, even because you can't access the city centre with it and parking is expensive. Busses, trains and tram are functional. But if you want to visit Tuscany you'll need a car, especially for places like Chianti and Maremma or the coast. We are a welcoming country, so don't hesitate to ask for more information!!
