Last year, which was 2023, I visited Switzerland more than once. I had short stays in the span of 2 to upto 3 months for couple of days since I'm a concert pianist and taking many master classes across entire Switzerland. As someone who also used to live in Geneva for 5 years my experience is a vast one. Switzerland? What to say? If you are travelling solo or decide to live solo there is no safer place. Whereveryou go, you feel free and protected. However, that comes with a price. Yes, Switzerland is extremely expensive but as well offers many opportunities earn a decent living. As for the travel there are always variants and ways to stash some money and not spend as much as commercial society dictates via local cheap hostels or couch surfing. In Switzerland people are very polite and still can transmit that long forgotten European flare of life and culture. Food? 😁 One has to be honest and admit that national cuisine is not a very rich or tasty one, but with so many international restaurants you will surely not suffer! Of course, common supermarkets offer everything and beyond. Nature is absolutely astonishing and traveling through Switzerland to see it, is worth every penny and every second! So, if you are respectful towards others, have good manners, are hard-working and on top of everything a polyglot (preferably German, French; but English is spoken everywhere 😉) then pack your things and book your next trip to the land of cheese, lakes, mountains and watches!

Everything is extremely expensive, particularly the train tickets. Public transport is great and extremely punctual. I found the people to be nice. On Sundays, only the restaurants open; no stores or markets are open. So, you can only walk and take stroll. I liked Bern more than Zurich. I found it more beautiful and with fewer modern constructions.
Posted: April 7, 2024I felt really safe in all the places I visited here, even at night by myself. If you like nature and outdoors activities, there are many things to do, but if you like to party, this place might not be the best. About the food, it is okay. The traditional dishes are quite tasty, but other than that, there’s not much variety. It is a very expensive country, public transport, restaurants, accommodation, etc. I stayed mostly in airbnbs, they were nice, and the train here is the best. Quite expensive but it is very good and always on time.

During my visit to Switzerland, I explored Basel, Zurich, and Geneva over five days. The primary reason for my trip was a conference in Zurich, although my plans altered due to a flight cancellation, leading me to spend two hours in Basel before taking a train to Zurich. On the last day, I managed to visit Geneva. Regarding safety, Switzerland felt remarkably secure even during late evenings. I felt comfortable walking until 9:30 pm, while a friend mentioned feeling safe to walk there even at 3 am. The locals are generally helpful, although not everyone speaks English fluently. Preparing a list of tourist spots and their addresses on your phone can be useful when seeking directions. Showing these details to locals can assist them in understanding and guiding you appropriately. For accommodations, I spent around 650 euros for two hotels in Zurich and Geneva, choosing mid-range options rather than budget accommodations. In terms of food and restaurants, there are numerous restaurants offering delicious Swiss cuisine. During my visit to Geneva, I had the pleasure of dining at Auberge de Savièse, a charming restaurant renowned for its authentic Swiss cuisine. This cozy restaurant exuded a traditional Swiss atmosphere with its wooden decor and inviting ambiance. Transportation within Switzerland is convenient, mainly through an extensive and efficient train network. Navigating the train system is relatively easy, and it's a reliable way to travel between cities. In Zurich and Geneva, the tram and bus networks complement the train system well. They offer efficient city travel, reaching various attractions. Navigating these networks is straightforward, enhancing the overall convenience of getting around both cities. However, it's essential to be mindful of transportation rules and ensure you have valid tickets as there are regular checks. Day 1: Arrival in Basel, train to Zurich Day 2: Exploring Zurich Day 3: Exploring Zurich Day 4: Train to Geneva; exploring the city Day 5: Departure from Geneva, flying back home
Posted: December 27, 2023I was in Switzerland in May for 6 days. I had a car and drove from Zurich to Zermatt, where I spent 2 days. Then I went to Lauterbrunnen for 2 days and to Lucerne for another 2. I took a one-day trip to Bern for about half a day. There was a lot of traveling, but I had a great time and it is incredibly beautiful there.
Posted: September 29, 2023I went alone on a 10-day trip to Switzerland. It was more beautiful there than I thought. It was also more expensive than I expected. If you're planning a trip, I suggest buying a Swiss Travel Pass. It provides free train, bus, and boat rides, free admission to most museums, and discounts on other attractions. It was very worth it. For the first week, I stayed in Zurich and took day trips to Bern (my favourite), Lucerne, Liechtenstein (the pass works here too), Stein am Rhein, and Jungfraujoch. Then I went to Zermatt (Matterhorn is amazing) and took the Glacier Express to Saint Moritz, before returning to Zurich to fly home.
Posted: August 16, 2023I traveled to Switzerland alone and loved it. I stayed in hostels and cooked my own meals. I spent most of my money on various attractions. I really liked Zermatt and Interlaken, as well as the surrounding areas like Lauterbrunnen and Jungfrau.
Posted: April 30, 2023I love Switzerland. I have been to Lauterbrunnen. I really liked it there. I also loved Interlaken and took the cable car to Harder Klum, also visited Mt Rigi. I absolutely loved this country and would be happy to go back there.
Posted: April 2, 2023Switzerland is so clean and safe! It's a bit expensive since they use Swiss francs, and people are usually quiet and keep to themselves (from my experience, which is fine because I'm similar), but it's so beautiful and peaceful there.
Posted: December 12, 2022We traveled around Switzerland for 3 weeks. We started from Geneva, then went to Bern, Interlaken, Lucerne, and Zurich. We had a 15-day Swiss Pass and each day we took a different trip. Every day was more beautiful than the last. It was incredible.

Switzerland has always given me a sense of security and comfort. Growing up there, I have only encountered a few unusual situations over the past 20 years. On two or three occasions, men tried to flirt with me, but I was never touched or followed against my will. The public transportation system, particularly trains, is very safe. Major train stations are well-monitored, enhancing overall security. Additionally, there's a helpful app you can download. If you ever feel uneasy, you can use the app to call someone who will stay on the phone with you, tracking your location until you reach home safely. These measures and my personal experiences have always made me feel secure and comfortable in Switzerland.

It’s really safe, i never had any danger, walking home alone in the nighttime. Also alsmost everywhere are lights and at the trainstatioms are security who are helping you, when you don’t feel well or safe.

PARVATHY
Hello, I'm PARVATHY and I'm interested in architecture, art, books, culture, cinema, dancing, events & social, food & cuisine, history, languages and nature
Here are some tips I can propose: - Public transportation is very efficient and good here, and there are even special tickets for foreigners. There is also an app called 'SBB mobile', which will show you the timetable of all trains, buses, and trams. It might also be cheaper to rent a car, the roads here are very safe and not difficult to navigate. Just make sure you know what you want to do before you go out so as not to waste money, as public transport here is expensive. - The cheapest supermarkets are denner, lidl, and aldi. Coop and migros are most common, but they are bit more expensive. There's also an app called 'too good to go', which is amazing. - Hostels are the best solution. Even fairly cheap things here are of a quite high standard, so you will most likely not be disappointed. - If you want to visit Grindelwald and/or Lauterbrunnen, I suggest you stay in Interlaken or nearby, as it is much cheaper. Most hotels/hostels there will give you a card that allows you to use public transport for free, and Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen are very close to Interlaken and within the scope of this free ticket. There are also so-called savings tickets, which if you buy in advance, are very cheap. You can find them in the app. The only problem with this is that they can only be valid at the hours you choose. If you miss that train, the ticket will no longer be valid. - If you plan to go hiking, there are several shelters in the Alps where you can stay overnight, which are not that expensive, and the sunsets and sunrises are incredible! - If it comes to other recommendations, I highly recommend visiting the entire area of Interlaken, and if your budget allows, climb to Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe. Zermatt is also amazing but expensive.
Posted: November 27, 2022First and foremost - make sure you have plenty of money! Switzerland is beautiful, but not cheap. It's also incredibly safe, so you don't have to worry about that. Switzerland is known for its nature and mountains. I love the Lauterbrunnen and Interlaken areas. Pilatus and Rigi are also great for one-day mountain trips. This country has a really good public transportation system, so it's easy to get around. Tickets can be purchased at the railway/tram station or in the SBB mobile app. In most cases, no prior reservation is needed. In Zurich, I recommend: - Kunsthaus (art gallery) - Bathing zones on the lake: Badi Utoquai and Seebad Enge - Going to see a show at the opera - Shopping on Bahnhofstrasse - Museums! There are so many, so look for one that interests you the most - Hiking to Uetliberg (or there's a train if you just want to enjoy the view) - Eating luxemburgerli, hot chocolate, and pastries at Sprüngli - Brunch (with Zopf bread and delicious coffee!) at Gran Café Motta.
